As the holidays come to a close and the winter settles, we gear ourselves toward another busy theatre going season where tourists and locals alike descend on Southern Oregon to enjoy her beauty, culture, fabulous restaurants, art galleries and friendly people. In honor of Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s 75th Anniversary, we are inviting Southern Oregon Mixologist’s to enter our Cocktail Recipe contest and create the perfect drink reflective of these last 75 years of OSF.

You have probably already received an invitation, or maybe someone suggested you enter the competition. Now we need to see your creation.
Submit your original cocktail in the form below. You can enter up to two cocktails per category.

i. Best O-N Vodka cocktail, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
ii. Best O-N Gin cocktail, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
iii. Most creative use of Shakespearean reference for name of cocktail

If you craft a cocktail using Gin and Vodka, just submit it into the category you think it will compete best in. Please read the Rules and Regulations at the bottom of this page, for details on what we expect. Describe your recipe, giving specific directions of how to make your cocktail (please describe the recipe for someone who is not a bartender and in a way that will easily be used for publication). Label in ounces (i.e. ¼ oz, ½ oz, no ‘counts’). Name your cocktail using Shakespearean reference as to the last 75 yrs. of OSF. Also, include a short description of how or why this name characterizes OSF. Lastly, include a picture of your cocktail. This will help us to recreate it to your exact specifications as well as posting on our website, use in the media, etc.

Rules and Regulations:

Entries due by 12am on March 8, 2010.
**Entrants must be of legal drinking age to enter as of January 1, 2010.
Recipe must be competitor’s original creation.
The Primary Spirit must be Organic Nation Gin and/or Organic Nation Vodka.
Use of other ingredients reflective of Southern Oregon, Oregon and Shakespeare are encouraged. Preference will be given to the use of handcrafted/fresh ingredients vs. processed i.e. fresh squeezed lime juice vs. Roses’ Lime Juice.
Recommended glassware should be specified in your recipe.
Drink ingredients should be written in standard weights and measures (fluid ounces, cups, teaspoons, etc.). Instructions for mixing and presenting the drink should be clear and concise.
A short description (not to exceed 50 words) of the cocktail. This should include the name of the cocktail, inspiration behind it, how it represents the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, tips for how best to enjoy it and any other information that may help the judges.
Recipe may be any style of drink. Please specify your intent-
 Martini Style (served up in a martini/cocktail glass)
 Long Drink (served in a Collins glass over ice)
 Short Drink (served in a rocks/highball glass over ice)
 Pre-Dinner (a bitter or dry cocktail used as an aperitif style to stimulate the appetite)
 After Dinner (a sweeter dessert style cocktail)
***Blended (frozen) or hot drinks will not be accepted.
Total liquid (excluding ice) will be a minimum of three (3) ounces and a maximum of seven (7) ounces. The maximum amount of ingredients shall be Ten (10), this includes spirits and mixers such as sodas, juices, syrups, bitters, muddled fruits, spices, herbs, garnishes, rims etc.
Competitors may not combine multiple ingredients to create one ingredient (i.e. homemade syrups, tinctures, bitters, etc.) Competitors may use syrups, bitters or other flavorings that are already bottled for resale and are readily available. Preference will be given to handcrafted/fresh ingredients vs. processed i.e. fresh squeezed lime juice vs. Rose’s Lime juice.

**Competitors may enter a max of two (2) different cocktail recipes for each spirit.

All entries become the property of Organic Nation Spirits, which reserves the right to use the recipes in promotions and advertising, and for any other purpose, without compensation to the participant. Organic Nation Spirits reserves the right to alter any portion of the cocktail including name, should we see fit for reproduction.
Winners will be notified by email and phone on or before March 26, 2010.

Judging Criteria:
25% - Simplicity, Creativity and Originality of drink design
25% - How well drink reflects 75 yrs of Shakespeare Festival in Southern Oregon
25% - Flavor composition
25% - Ease-ability to recreate the cocktail
We are looking for a tasty clean cocktail that can be mixed at most bars!
**Ingredients used that do not effect the drink in flavor or presentation will be counted against overall score

Prizes: There will be a First, Second and Third Place finalist for each Spirit.

1st -First Place (2 winners): will receive one bottle of Organic Nation Vodka and one bottle of Organic Nation Gin, a small sample of the upcoming limited release of our Oldfield Rye Whiskey due out in 2010, 1 nights stay at Ashland Springs Hotel or (some holiday Black-Out dates will apply).
2nd -Second Place (2 winners): will receive a bottle of Organic Nation Vodka and one bottle of Organic Nation Gin and a gift voucher for a pair of tickets to OSF.
3rd -Third Place (2 winners): will receive a bottle of Organic Nation Vodka and one bottle of Organic Nation Gin.
Most Creative Drink Title: one bottle of winner’s choice Organic Nation vodka or gin.

First round Judging will begin shortly after March 9, 2010 and all prizes will be determined on or before March 26, 2010.
First, you will only be notified if you are in the first round of finals.
Secondly, The Judging Panel for finalists will take place at Nunan Estates in Jacksonville on Wed. March 24th from 4-6pm. Please plan to attend and RSVP to spirits@organicnationspirits.com or call the Distillery at 541.482.3160.
Winning finalists, if not present, will be notified of prize level.
Prizes will be presented at Sip Local Project’s First Friday on April 2, 2010 at The Ashland Springs Hotel starting at 4:30 pm. Please note to plan for attendance whether you were a contestant or a finalist. Finalist’s drinks will be available to purchase at LARKS, as well as, free tasting samples of Organic Nation spirits.
